Good Friday remembers the crucifixion and death of Christ, while Easter Sunday celebrates his resurrection. What is the meaning and significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Why is it something that has been so celebrated throughout history? Without someone stepping in to correct this situation, we cannot have the relationship with God that he intended. In the death of Jesus on the cross, God put our punishment on Christ so that we could be justified before him.
No amount of effort, medical technology, power or riches can escape the clutches of death. Christ rose from the dead because death could no longer hold him, and we no longer have to fear death because Christ has triumphed over it.
Death is no longer an enemy because in Christ, we no longer have to fear the punishment that comes after death.
O death, where is your sting? But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! When we believe in Christ, we are united to him in faith. Union with Christ means that when God looks at us, he does not see our unrighteousness, but the righteousness of Christ. It means that we have died with him and will also live with him Romans This union is made possible by the resurrection of Christ.
We are now able to walk in newness of life because we are bound to Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit Romans This idea is shown in baptism, which is the powerful physical demonstration of the spiritual reality of our dying with Christ and being raised with him. Isaiah 53 and Psalm 16 are among the many examples of Scriptures that prophesied about the resurrected life of Jesus:. The fact that Jesus is alive today means that he is able to save today.
And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain…and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. He would have been a liar. The apostles are also liars for testifying to a resurrection that did not occur.
Furthermore, there is no forgiveness for anybody's sin. Those who have died believing in Christ have no hope. If hope in Christ is limited to this life, Christians are to be pitied above all people. The resurrection is also important to the identity and mission of Jesus.
First, the resurrection is important to His identity. The resurrection is the demonstration that Jesus indeed is the Son of God. The resurrection is also important to His character. Jesus would not have been a true prophet had He not come back from the dead as He predicted that He would.
It is important to Jesus' ministry. If He did not come back from the dead then His ministry would have ended in defeat. Finally, it is important to His message. The centrality of the Christian message is that Jesus died and then came back from the dead.
If He did not come back from the dead then there is no Christianity. Consequently we see that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is absolutely crucial to the Christian faith.

The resurrection of Jesus is at the heart of the Christian message. How unfortunate that church services may stress the empty tomb only on Easter Sunday, or even just through the Eastertide season. The resurrection culminates the passion narrative in all four Gospels because it is at the center of redemption itself.
Without it, one can only pity Jesus as a dead martyr whose lofty ideals were sadly misunderstood. Paul bluntly stated that apart from the resurrection our faith and message are in vain 1 Corinthians To be sure, the apostolic proclamation of the gospel centered on the cross Galatians ; 1 Corinthians ; 1 Peter ; Hebrews , 14; ; Revelations , 9.
But the meaning of the cross is at best unclear without the resurrection.
