Pixil Level I've always seen it as just another game mechanic. Gender was just convenient to choose as a "does it work or not" mechanic, to make it a bit more challenging to use, and easier to counter. Personally I doubt they'll change Attract at all, unless they're like heavily attacked over it and pressured to do so, but honestly I believe that'd be a little silly.
Like animals, "infatuation" probably just means "a drive to breed". Or at least, that's what I think they had in mind when they integrated it, not anything about Homosexuality.
