And specifically we foster the transition into the Liturgy of the Eucharist and lead the assembly to our ultimate goal, giving thanks and partaking in the Presence of the Body and Blood of Christ. IC has been blessed with a resurgence of the Usher Ministry because of the dedication of those who have joined the Usher ranks in the past 2 years and continue to serve at Mass.
I am the Lead Usher at the Mass and have been blessed by the spirit of 25 others who serve at least once monthly and some much more than that. Carry the bread and wine to the priest. Bow and return to your seats after the priest has taken the gifts. Remove bulletins and ascents before Mass begins from the center table in the gathering area. Place a gluten free host on the credence table up front when requested. Inform the person requesting to sit in section 4 or at least go to the priest to receive communion.
Also encourage people not to sit in the windows unless the pews are full. After Mass begins and before the first reading, you can help find seats for the people still in need of one. Please do not seat anyone during the readings — wait until the congregation stands for the Alleluia which starts the gospel to let the others take a seat. We will have signs on brass poles to point, that state to refrain for taking a seat during the readings.
Get your collection baskets when the prayers of the faithful are being said. Passing out baskets for collections: In sections 1,3,4,6 you drop a basket on the first row then at odd number pews.
You will need to make adjusts for an open front row. The baskets should be distributed so that each row passes it down then back up.
Church ushers serve in different ways that vary according to religious tradition and doctrine. Some of the more common duties of ushers including guiding congregants to their seats, passing collection plates and collecting new member information.
Although the specifics will vary, there are general rules of etiquette that ushers should follow to show respect to the church and its members. Ushers should dress appropriately. Some churches have a formal dress code so that visitors and new members can instantly recognize the ushers.
For example, ushers may be asked to dress in black and white. Other churches may just request that the ushers dress in a conservative manner. Women may be asked to wear skirts that extend below the knee and men may be asked to wear slacks, not jeans.
